Our Global Hardware Engineer will be responsible for driving Hardware Architecture and Design of our diverse medical device portfolio globally. You can expect to be responsible for hardware system level architecture, analog circuit design, schematic capture and board layout, leading design reviews, and verifying systems through analysis and testing. - Location: This position is available to be based out of our Natus Oakville or Ottawa R&D Site. Hybrid work schedule an option.
Main Responsibilities
- Bring industry best practices of Hardware Platform Development and help navigate changing technologies and trends
- Lead in development and maintenance of FPGA designs, with a strong focus on design reliability and performance.
- Lead, advocate, and enforce best practices in design, development and testing and mentor junior team members
- Define and monitor the activities for the project feasibility effort
- Develop new electronic systems for medical devices and modify existing hardware systems
- Create schematics, determine component selection, and drive layout of printed circuits using ECAD tools
- Suggest and implement improvements to the hardware development process, including Design For Reliability (DFR), Design For Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT)
- Lead and analyze external testing results for EMC, ESD and Safety testing and address any failures through proper testing or applicable design changes
- Interface with mechanical design team, system engineering, test engineering, and sustaining engineering teams throughout the product development cycle
- Design power and battery charging circuitry to support mobile and ambulatory devices
- Travel: up to 10% domestic or international travel on a project need basis
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
- 5+ years of relevant experience in hardware design and development in a heavily regulated environment, preferably medical device
- Demonstrated leadership experience driving new product development projects to completion
- Strong experience with VHDL/VeriLog in FPGA design and simulation. Experience with Vivado and ModelSim preferred.
- Strong RTL design experience.
- Experience working with Xilinx FPGA family, Spartan 7 and Artix 7 family preferred
- Experience in MCU design and board bring up. STM32 family a plus.
- Working knowledge of electrical safety testing
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Experience creating schematics, determining component selection, and driving layout of printed circuits using ECAD tools, Altium preferred
- Experience with PCIE core in FPGA design is highly desirable but not required
- Experience with HW testbench creation and timing analysis is highly desirable but not required
