Responsibilities
As a member of LC Studio, in the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation (CTLI), the Instructional Designer (ID) works collaboratively with design teams to design learning experiences for students, staff, and community. These learning experiences may be delivered in face to face, online, or workshop settings. The ID will work on projects that include designing learning experiences for many types of adult learners, including those within and outside of Lethbridge College.
The ID collaborates with a design team to develop a wide variety of learning experiences, including courses, micro-credentials, workshops, and assessments, as well as project-specific learning resources. The ID conducts activities such as creating a course framework, outcome mapping, competency mapping, course design, assessment design, facilitation planning, and other duties as required. They typically work with subject matter experts and a design team that may consist of learning experience designers, writers, media designers, editors, and formatters. They use a human-centred design approach and consider the learner in their design. The ID integrates educational theory and practice into their learning materials and courses.
The ID must thrive on working effectively and efficiently in a team based, collaborative, fast paced environment and demonstrate the ability to be innovative and focused on excellence and evidence-based practice. They will need be able to balance competing priorities as they may be assigned to multiple projects. Strong project management, decision making, interpersonal and relationship building skills are essential.

Job Duties
- Works closely with the designated project team to ensure the learning experience aligns with greater curriculum projects and/or overarching project goals and objectives
- Consulting with subject matter experts (SME) and media specialists to determine best practices in terms of needs analysis, design, and development processes
- Providing support during the design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages of the project
- Coordinating all aspects of the project, from project start-up through to completion including meetings and developing a project plan
- Ensuring the project is completed on schedule
- Ensuring the project meets quality standards and applies best practices in educational and learner theory and universal design for learning (UDL)
- Completes development of learning experiences in Canvas LMS
- Designing assessments for the learning environment
- Communicating and engaging with project design team throughout process
- An undergraduate degree in Education
- Significant and successful teaching experience
- Experience with learning management systems (preferably Canvas)
- Strong organizational and self-management skills, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and attend to detail
- Demonstrate time management skills, communication skills (oral and written), project management skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative, team environment as well as independently
- Familiarity with Lethbridge College’s values and culture and a commitment to work towards our institutional goals with positivity and enthusiasm
- Masters degree with specialization in instructional design, educational research, educational technology and/or curriculum development is preferred
- Experience with online course development and delivery using a learning management system is strongly recommended
- Experience and/or education on the topic of competency-based education and assessment is an asset
- Experience and/or education on the topic of educational technologies, including VR/AR, digital badging, and technologies for hyflex delivery
