Laporte is looking to fill the following position for the Burnaby office.

Intermediate Control Systems Engineer – Burnaby, BC

The Senior Control Systems Engineer will join the Western Canada Electrical and Controls team and report to the Lead Electrical Engineer. They will be asked to perform the following:

Responsibilities:

• Leading the engineering design, procurement, implementation and commissioning of automated manufacturing processes, for greenfield or brownfield projects of varying size and complexity;
• Providing formal design reviews for the work of other members of the electrical and controls team, be a subject matter expert;
• Mentoring engineers, technologists, and designers, including supervision, and training;
• Developing, coordinating and preparing project specifications;
• Leading the development of proposal, engineering and construction cost estimates and schedules;
• Leading the equipment, motor, instrumentation and IO lists, bills of materials, control strategies, control panel and PLC layouts, functional, instrumentation loop and PLC IO diagrams;
• Configuring, and troubleshooting PLC and HMI hardware and other “smart” devices (VFD’s, instrumentation, etc.);
• Developing, supporting, and troubleshooting PLC, HMI, datalogging and reporting applications;
• Specifying, procuring and accepting instrumentation, control panels, equipment skid systems, and MCCs;
• Implementing and tracking specific equipment or systems modifications adhering to established change control procedures.

Key Requirements:

• BS or MS degree in Electrical or Automation Engineering;
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in engineering consulting;
• Professional Engineer designation in BC, or eligibility;
• Professional work experience as an Engineering consultant in the agri-food, pharmaceutical or food and beverage industries (other industry may be considered depending on skills and experience); Familiarity with food safety an asset;
• Strong oral and written communications skills with internal and external stakeholders;
• Ability to travel to project sites (primarily located in BC and AB);
• Able to follow safety regulation and guidelines.

Technical Skills and Proficiencies:

• Proficient in leading and managing detailed design, procurement, construction support and commissioning;
• Proficient with at least three of the leading control system platforms (Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, DeltaV, etc.);
• Proficient with at least two of the leading HMI applications platforms (Factory Talk, Ignition, Simatic, etc.);
• Proficient in the sizing, selecting, configuring and commissioning motor starters, soft starters and VFDs;
• Strong knowledge of local, Provincial and National regulations and standards related to electrical design;
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and /or Eplan an asset.
