Job Details
Position Title: International Student Advisor
Status: Full-Time
Hours: 35 hours per week
Faculty/Department: International
Campus/Location: North Campus
Salary: $35.39 - $41.01
What you will do:
Reporting to the Manager, International Student Services, the International Student Advisor is responsible for providing a comprehensive array of support services & advocacy for Humber's International Student community of approximately 6,000 students. International Student Advisors oversee four major sets of responsibilities. They provide all non-academic and immigration-related counselling and advice for international students (as they are the only staff members at Humber with certification required by Federal legislation that permits them to provide this very specific type of counsel). They develop and deliver culturally relevant international student programming targeting a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, interests, ages and academic majors. They mediate international student issues with contacts both inside and outside Humber on a host of topics. Finally, they lead the development of comprehensive international student transition & support plans and implement by mentoring international student employees. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

What you bring to the role:
Education
The successful candidate will possess a 4 year degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Student Affairs, Counselling, Marketing, International Business, or a related discipline.
Registration with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) and accreditation as a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) or a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) is required.
Experience & Skills
Minimum of 3 years related work experience is required.
- Incumbents must demonstrate advanced proficiency with general computer applications (MS Office)
- Incumbents must demonstrate an advanced understanding of, and experience working in, immigration issues, particularly related to international student issues in Canada
- Incumbents must demonstrate success in leading student groups and developing activities for students in the post-secondary sector
- Fluency in a specific second language other than English strongly preferred. Languages considered include Hindi, Punjabi, Mandarin, Arabic, Farsi, Russian, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Bahasa, Spanish or Portuguese
