Kitchen Manager
The Cook will have a high degree of maturity and specific skills in their area of responsibility.
The Cook will work under the supervision of the Staffing Chair.
The Cook will provide weekly meal plans to the Camp Board of Directors at the start of each camping week. The meal plans will follow the Canada Food Guide and will be reviewed by a nutritionist.
The Cook will work in cooperation with the Camp Director.
Duties:
● The successful candidate will be required to prepare nutritious daily meals and snacks for campers and staff who attend the weekly residential camping programs throughout the summer and the staff.
● Responsible for executing the meal plan as based on the criteria set forth by the staffing committee
● Responsible for the ordering of all food and camp supplies for the buildings
● Coordinating daily/weekly tasks for the Cook & Assistant Cook
● Responsible for the completion of weekly evaluations for the cook & cooks assistant.
● Maintain a high standard of cleanliness within the kitchen and eating area.
● To complete incident reports as soon as possible.
● Responsible for seeing that required water and health checks are carried out. Check and record daily the temperature of the walk-in fridge.
● Complete assigned clean up duties at the end of each Camp.
● Planning of menus, ordering and purchasing of food within budget guidelines, ensuring regulated food safety standards are met, and planning meals for special diets or special occasions as required.
● Ensure personal items, equipment and assigned area in a cabin or in the lodge is at all times kept in a clean, neat and orderly manner.
● Other duties as required
Qualifications:
● Training and /or experience in ordering and food preparation.
● Work with minimal supervision
● Training in food safety standards.
● Current Food Safety certification
● Ability to keep records of monies spent and work within the required budget.
● Ability to relate well with children and staff, and work as part of the team.
● Ability to work with and supervise tasks carried out by the second cook and cook’s assistant.
● Ability to work with the Camp Director to resolve any problems or concerns.
● Be an appropriate role model for children.
● Must have a completed First Aid certificate by July 1
● Be able to administer basic first aid
● To work in relationship with vulnerable individuals who are under the age of consent
● To have a level 2 Police check by July 1 (of current year)
● WHIMIS training (we will provide)
