Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) is an 84 bed hospital located in Collingwood, Ontario (approximately 90 minutes north of Toronto) that serves more than 74,000 permanent residents and 3.5 Million annual visitors to the communities of Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Clearview and the Blue Mountains. CGMH is an acute care hospital providing emergency care, diagnostic services including lab, imaging and cardio respiratory therapy, as well as two inpatient units (medicine and surgery). In addition, CGMH also provides care in specialty areas including obstetrics, orthopaedics, intensive care and surgery. The Hospital also provides out patient care including dialysis and a wide range of clinics including mental health and rehabilitation services. CGMH continues to provide care close to home for our community and plays a key role as an integrated orthopaedic centre for our region. The Opportunity:


The Laboratory department is seeking a Permanent Full-Time Laboratory Information Specialist (LIS). This position is responsible for the normal daily functioning of the Laboratory Information System and Specimen Receiving Department.


Qualifications:

  • Certification in Medical Laboratory Technology by the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Scientists (C.S.M.L.S) required
  • Member in good standing of College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Active membership and participation in associated societies, user or peer groups required
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ recent laboratory experience in Computerized Health Care Information Systems (preferably Meditech)
  • Preference for a University Degree or Community College Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and a minimum of a Diploma level in Information Technology, Computer Science or IT related program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare program required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current LIS/technologies within the field
  • Project Management experience and problem solving skills an asset
  • Experience supporting end users from an applications and device standpoint
  • Demonstrated proficiency with keyboarding, Laboratory Information Systems (Meditech preferred), Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated excellent human resources management and leadership skills.
  • Must strive to continuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers
  • Must adhere to the duties of workers, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Must have an ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) in the English language in order to provide excellent communication with team members, patients and families. Ability to communicate in additional language(s) is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to perform all bona fide and essential duties of the position, which may include physical demands such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending, etc.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent attendance/performance record

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating the flow of clinical/statistical information/results to/from the Laboratory Information System (LIS), other internal and external modules, physicians, clients and EMR
  • Coordinating with the Laboratory for system downtimes, upgrades and recovery; Troubleshooting LIS problems
  • Liaising with Clinical Informatics and Applications, Decision Support, other IT departments
  • Coordinating the building, updating and maintenance of the Laboratory Information System dictionaries; Develop new functionality and expand upon existing functionality within the LIS system
  • Maintaining general aspects of Meditech training, procedure manual and documents according to IQMH requirements for LIS
  • Providing training and in-service of key Laboratory staff
  • Providing statistical and clinical information to the Laboratory Manager and advise on new LIS equipment, LIS upgrades and strategies
  • Collaborating with regional partners in implementing computerized and logistical improvements
  • Providing application support and implementation assistance to regional partners for Meditech Laboratory modules
  • Other tasks as assigned

Hours of Work: Please be reminded that as a Hospital, in order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. Therefore, depending on the program for which you are applying, it may be an expectation that you are available to work weekdays and weekends, as well as all shifts - days, evenings, and nights.


Wage: $33.65 - $45.11 per hour.
