Learning Facilitator Job at Portal Youth Outreach Association
The Learning Facilitator will deliver the group and individual learning track for the Edge program. Edge, a joint program of Community Inc. and The Portal, is designed as an early intervention for ESIA clients and young adults, 18- 26 years of age. The program provides the navigation, community, support, training, hands on experience, and job matching to connect with and maintain employment. The Learning Facilitator will join a talented, dynamic, proactive, and responsive team to work together to develop and deliver a variety of programming and services that collectively will offer a connected and motivating circle of emotional and practical support.
The successful applicant will have the desire to be a part of increasing opportunities for youth, understand the issues facing youth, and understand the social and business case for inclusion and diversity. Additionally, the applicant will need to have a clean criminal record, excellent collaboration and conflict resolution skills, strong computer skills, understanding of employability skills, and the ability to work outside of the normal working hours for special events.
Role and Responsibilities
The Learning Facilitator will plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and deliver training programs for young adults (ages 18-26) in the areas of life management, job readiness, job search, employment maintenance and job specific skills and certification-based courses. The Learning Facilitator will design and deliver activities that meet the needs of diverse learning styles and abilities, offer experiential learning, and adhere to adult learning principals that are engaging, instructive and conducted in a variety of settings.
The successful candidate will provide:
1. Training needs assessments & workshop development from an existing set of outcomes and topics.
2. Adaptation of the program based on the interviews & surveys to determine knowledge and skill gaps
3. The creative presentation of existing and new training materials and content.
4. Workshop development that incorporates a variety of instruction methods, engages learners early and often, meets the needs of diverse learning styles, and incorporates employability skills.
5. The application of adult learning principles in an experiential setting inside the centre, outside or in various environments that stimulates change and growth.
6. An environment that is welcome to all learners – inclusive of cultures, ability, gender, religion, sexual orientation, mental health, and accessibility.
7. The coordination of a variety of facilitators from within and outside the organization.
8. Workshops, uniquely modified and delivered on the topics such as: life management, conflict management / challenging interactions, workplace communication, time management, stress management, routine building, learning coping mechanisms and skills, self-reflection, financial literacy, career cruising, skills identification, interests, values and goals, resume / cover letter workshops, job search strategies – hidden job market, networking labour market research, use of internet to access job opportunities, self-marketing, interview techniques, preparing to start a job, individual mock interviews, computer skills for job search, employment maintenance / success, expectations of employers, requesting and accepting feedback, punctuality, attendance, breaks, effective communication skills, acceptance of others, and accessing support!
Reporting / Documentation Requirements:
1. Prepare training calendar on a quarterly basis, ensuring the team is informed.
2. Ensure that youth, in-house staff and ESS are aware of training schedule, progress, and needs.
3. Maintain and develop training binders (electronic and paper) of workshop materials.
4. Record attendance at each workshop and share with Youth Navigator, Mentor, Management team
5. Prepare certificates for completed programs.
Evaluation:
1. Complete evaluations at the end of each workshop and maintain information collected.
2. Enhance workshops based on feedback.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience developing and delivering interactive workshops / training programs.
- Post-secondary education in a social services, recreation, education or related field or an acceptable combination of experience and training.
- A clean criminal record check and Child Abuse Registry Check
- Experience working with a diverse client base, in particular, a marginalized population.
- Flexibility to accommodate evening networking opportunities and early morning event set ups, as required.
- Preferred experience working with youth from marginalized communities.
- Training and experience in facilitation and experiential learning
Skills Required:
- Workshop planning, facilitation, and evaluation experience
- Above average interpersonal and judgment skills
- Strong and effective communication skills – verbal and written.
- Knowledge of essential skills needed to be successful getting and maintaining work
- Awareness of barriers to employment; individual and societal
- Experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds.
- Accurate record keeping practices.
- Excellent time management skills
- A commitment to life-long learning
- Professional and adaptable presentation skills.
- Strong computer skills, with the ability to work in a computerized environment using MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook programs, social media platforms.
