LIFEGUAR D/SWIM INSTRUCTOR
The City of Port Alberni is currently accepting applications from enthusiastic, reliable,
r esponsible and qualified candidates who are interested in working as Lifeguards/Swim
I nstructors at our Aquatic Centre. These positions are casual positions with no assigned hours.
The successful candidates will perform lifeguard and swim instruction duties, and ensure the
safety and enjoyment of guests at our swim sessions. This position also responds to
emergencies and incidents requiring first aid. Applicants must have completed Grade 10 and
be a minimum of 16 years of age, have great customer service skills and be available to work
evenings and weekends.
Required qualifications include:
- Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Award (NL Pool Option)
- Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor
- Current recognized Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED certification
Qualified applicants will take part in an evaluation session which will include written and
practical teaching assignments and a practical lifeguarding session. From this evaluation,
candidates will be selected for interviews. Successful candidates will be required to
successfully complete a pre-employment fitness evaluation and a Police Information Check.
The rate of pay is $30.98 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits.
