Overview:

Prairie Hill Farms Ltd. is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic individual who will work to help our maintenance department with general day to day maintenance tasks in the plant and field setting. The maintenance assistant will be responsible for helping the maintenance supervisor with general day to day tasks that meet or exceed Prairie Hill Farms’ standards for quality and safety pertaining to the plant and field equipment.

The maintenance assistant reports directly to the Field Manager and Plant Manager alongside the maintenance supervisor for day-to-day tasks. Other tasks including plant support will be assigned as required.

Responsibilities

• Completing minor repair work, which includes repairing doors, locks, frames and shelving as well as replacing light bulbs, sockets, switches, and window glass
• Performing basic plumbing tasks, which includes unclogging drains as well as fixing leaking faucets and toilets
• Performing regular cleaning duties, which includes sweeping, dusting, mopping, and vacuuming shop space
• Installing mechanical equipment such as conveyer belts and metal detectors
• Inspecting equipment for signs of wear and tear or damage and reporting issues to supervisors
• Performing minor electrical work such as wiring new equipment
• Inspecting control panels and electrical wiring to detect any issues that require immediate attention
• Taking inventory of maintenance supplies and notifying the Supervisor of low or depleted supplies
• Promptly responding to requests for emergency repairs and clean-ups
• Ensuring that all maintenance equipment is in good working order

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Class 5 driver’s license
• Minimum 6 months in a plant and shop setting
• Sound knowledge of welding, basic plumbing, carpentry, and electrical wiring
• Proven general maintenance experience
• The ability to safely operate hand and power tools as well as cleaning equipment
• The ability to operate a scissor lift, forklift, and other similar equipment
• The ability to lift heavy objects
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Effective communication skills (strong English reading, writing, and speaking)
• Good hand-eye coordination

• Welding and/or millwright experience an asset
• Maintenance experience in a food plant setting
