Our open-pit mine and concent rator in Voisey’s Bay – Vale’s only fly-in/fly-out operation in Canada – produces nickel-cobalt-copper concentrate and copper concentrate. An underground expansion will see a transition to a leading edge underground mine extending the life of the mine until 2034. Our state-of the-art facility in Long Harbour is the first nickel processing plant in the world to use hydrometallurgy technology to produce Plating Rounds TM from hard rock (sulphide) concentrate, with low carbon footprint compared to traditional smelter technology. A team of employees across the province provide support to the Newfoundland and Labrador Operations.
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical to join our Fixed Plant Maintenance department in Voisey’s Bay, NL . This is a permanent position.
This position is based at the Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation.
The Maintenance Engineer will act as a leader in improving the overall equipment performance and reducing costs through establishment and implementation of proactive and reactive plant reliability improvement programs (RIPs). They will also lead the development of Reliability Assurance team skills in improvement related activities, continuously monitor and analyze equipment performance and facilitate improvement projects based on this data. Additionally, i n this position, you will:
- Analyze equipment performance and investigate trends;
- Evaluate new technologies for condition monitoring programs/initiatives and provide necessary input in the selection process (including vendors);
- Initiate and lead the Root Cause Analysis efforts using FMEA and RCFA tools;
- Establish performance monitoring standards to meet Uptime and Availability targets;
- Develop and maintain Reliability KPI reports, that includes explanation of variances and trends;
- Develop and issue Engineering Work Requests;
- Evaluate Equipment Design improvements; co-ordinate with Central Engineering;
- Coordinate with Operations, Procurement, Maintenance, Project Engineering, OEMs as required;
- Provide input for Equipment Capital Expenditures – Design for Maintainability and Reliability;
- Support Shutdowns as required/needed;
- Support stakeholders with Troubleshooting complex problems;
- Apply value analysis (cost vs. benefit) in making maintenance decisions concerning repair, replacement, or redesign of equipment and systems;
- Provide counsel to Operations and Maintenance groups to assist in continuous improvement in key areas of manpower, materials, methods, machinery, and legal compliance;
- Routinely contribute to the planning of realistic production capacity based upon analysis of preventive/predictive maintenance time needs, repair histories, inspection reports, and reliability block analysis;
- Update Equipment O and M plans to optimize its life-cycle and improve plant performance, and maintain a precision maintenance library for use in PM updates;
- Manage Risk Based Inspection Program for development of long range plans;
- Relief for Fixed Plant Superintendent.
About You
Education:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering combined with Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.).
Experience:
- 5 years as a Professional Engineer working in a role of similar experience in a related field.
- Experience working in an industrial environment such as mining, or construction is preferred.
- Experience in Reliability Based Inspection, Reliability Centered Analysis and Reliability System Analysis software.
- Broad knowledge in the repair of fixed plant assets and mining repair facilities.
- Strong computer skills in SAP would be an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
