Job Description


Performs preventive maintenance routines and assists tradesmen and technicians in the repair and adjustments of a variety of National and Non-National equipment and system.


Job Responsibilities


  • Performs preventive maintenance routines on National and Non-National equipment and systems, mobile and stationary, in a mechanized mail processing plant or other designated postal facility, in accordance with established preventive maintenance specifications. P.M. routines include: Inspecting, cleaning, lubricating.


  • Assists tradesmen and technicians in the performance of preventive maintenance tasks, repairs and adjustments to all types of equipment and structures.


  • Makes minor adjustments and repairs consistent with his experience and competence; replaces belts and springs.


  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, vacuum cleaners, air hoses and supplies such as oil, greases, solvents, cleaners, etc.


  • Reports observed equipment defects wear or damage requiring major repairs or correction; initiates work orders when necessary.


  • Conducts mail searches in mail processing equipment and systems, clears mail jams or blockages and resets electrical controls that have been ripped.


  • Obtains required replacement parts, tools and materials form maintenance stores and in the absence of the storesman, retrieves items used in support of maintenance duties, as required.

  • Observes established safety practices and requirements pertaining to the type of work involved.


  • Maintains documentation relative to the work performed and in support of the Maintenance information system.


  • Performs area assurance duties.


  • Maintenance of battery charger and batteries as required.


  • Performs battery charging and changing tasks as required.


  • Performs other job-related tasks in support of primary duties.


Qualifications


Education:


  • Completion of at least 2 years of secondary school.


Experience:


  • Experience in performing preventive maintenance routines such as inspecting, cleaning and lubrication off equipment.


Knowledge of:


  • Knowledge of safe work practices in a maintenance environment.

  • Knowledge of the work methods and procedures used in performing equipment maintenance.

  • Knowledge of the use and care of hand and power tools and maintenance supplies


Physical Abilities:


Must be able to safely lift items that weigh less than 22.7 kilograms (50 pounds) in lifting heavy equipment and tools and perform maintenance routines under a variety of conditions including cramped spaces, heights and other awkward positions.


Skills & Abilities:


  • Ability to use various tools and materials required for the work.

  • Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations.

  • Ability to read simple drawings and instructions.

  • Ability to keep appropriate computerized and manual Maintenance records.


  • Operate a computer and use programs such as Windows, MS Office.

  • Recommend changes in prevention maintenance procedures and practices.

  • Educate other personnel on safe and effective operating procedures for the equipment/systems in use.


Other Information


You will be required to pass a pre-employment test and an interview.
Some travel maybe required.
