This position in Fort Erie, Ontario is in a unionized food manufacturing plant with 275 associates. Fort Erie is a border town with Buffalo New York and offers a rare combination of small-town values and easy access to big city amenities and culture.

We are in search of an experienced Maintenance Mechanic who will be responsible for applying their maintenance knowledge and expertise on the plant floor. The successful candidate will play a key role in the success of our organization by installing, repairing and maintaining machinery in the plant. They will also drive an own the TPM process (more info below) for the assigned bakery and across the plant.

Job Roles and Responsibilities

  • Industrial Millwright Certificate
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment and share knowledge of applicable mechanical concepts and principles with other maintenance personnel
  • Respond quickly to any calls from production to keep equipment operational and ensure production runs smoothly
  • To make sure all food safety standards are followed
  • To complete all necessary paperwork and used parts recording
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled and report results
  • To work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Daily activities include walking, standing, reaching, twisting, stooping, grasping, working near noisy equipment and occasionally working in the freezer
  • Must be able to lift up to 22 kg (50 lbs)

TPM Responsibilities

TPM – Total Productive Manufacturing – Is a new initiative for Rich Products starting in 2020, with the goal of empowering our associates to own their equipment and make decisions to drive out losses.

Role Description:

  • The Maintenance Lead is the Preventative Maintenance systems owner for the Line. He / She is responsible for eliminating maintenance and breakdown related losses. The Maintenance Lead is responsible for building capability in Operating Teams and Equipment Owners to deliver overall results supporting the Critical Business Drivers (CBD).

Responsibilities:

  • Drives breakthrough results in planned and unplanned downtime, and owns Maintenance & Repair costs for the line, Planned Maintenance, PM’s and breakdown reduction
  • Coaches and develops Shift Teams by serving as a technical coach / resource.
  • Actively participates in trio Daily Line Meetings and execution of the daily action plan.

All TPM Training will Be Provided After Hire

Additional Compensation

  • TPM Maintenance Owner receives $1 per hr above base rate
  • Additional Increases above base rate are available based on the plant’s “Pay For Skills” program. As you learn more, we pay you more.

MANDATORY LEVEL 1- Provincial Certificate of Qualification - See Maintenance Base Wage

  • Red Seal Electrician
  • Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)

LEVEL 2 – Operator B Ticket or approved equivalent - additional $2.00 / hr

LEVEL 3 - Approval from Chief to run Engine Room as Operator B- additional $2.00 / hr

LEVEL 4 – In addition to the base (as per level 1) additional $2.00/hr if associates holds any of the listed addtional Red Seal certifications

  • Plumber
  • Machinist
  • Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic
  • Tool and Die Maker

LEVEL 5 - PLC Programmer / Technician certificate - additional * $4.00/ hr

LEVEL 6 – Chief Refrigeration Operator - Base rate of $45.19

LEVEL 6 – Additional Certificate of Qualification additional $0.75/hr

  • Electrician or Millwright.
  • Gas Fitter
  • Instrumentation & Controls Technician
  • Other Pre-Approved Technical Course related to industry

*To qualify for this skill upgrade, a maintenance associate must have a post-secondary degree from an accredited learning institution in a program related to the field of electrical engineering, automation control, or PLC programming. In addition, they will need a PLC Technician Certificate, or equivalent work experience. Any existing maintenance associates will be required to get pre-approval of the learning program from the department manager before attending any classes intended to qualify for this upgrade

TPC online training or other Pre-Approved technical course $ .30 per course, / hr
