Job Profile:

The Maintenance Supervisor coordinates daily activities of the maintenance staff in setting up, installing, repairing and maintaining machinery / equipment, metal fabricating parts and tools. Applies technical knowledge and expertise in the development and/or implementation of new and improved manufacturing processes, procedures and equipment; and ensures that the design specifications and procurement of equipment, tooling, fixtures, etc. meet company requirements and objectives.

The Maintenance Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervisor maintenance staff in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic maintenance, robotic programming, repair of machinery and equipment and diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals of maintenance staff.
  • Supports the development of yearly budget for the maintenance department.
  • Establish and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all production equipment in the plant.
  • Establish up time data on all equipment and set plans to improve.
  • Implement TPM activities and lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Set up and maintain spare parts program for all equipment. Maintain stores area with Max-Min levels.
  • Ensure all processes are documented and have SOP’s and standard work.
  • Assist in programming of robots and related equipment such as robot controllers and programmable controllers as required
  • Ensures that factory efficiency is maintained at the highest possible level, without sacrificing safety, quality and cost.
  • Pass on information, experiences, knowledge and best practices to other maintenance associates with regards to repair jobs, preventative maintenance, problem symptoms, etc.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyses and resolves work problems or assists staff in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate staff to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records and schedule overtime.
  • Conducts and/or participates in accident investigations.
  • Maintains high level of housekeeping as per 5S goals.
  • Coordinate activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
  • Assist with day-to-day troubleshooting processes in order to maximize the output of on-grade product.
  • Take corrective action to address process deviations and find the root cause to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Assist in the development of new prototypes and transitioning into full scale production.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing principles to establish optimal assembly and fabrication methods.
  • Lead area improvement team, applying Six Sigma, Lean, 5S and other operational excellence techniques to achieve improvements.
  • Lead the development and execution of incremental capital and process improvements.
  • Obtain detailed quotations or designs and estimates for the cost of fixtures, tools and engineering requirements to be used in developing a formal proposal to upper management.
  • Identify and lead/facilitate Kaizen events as needed.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Oversee installation and tests to ensure machines, facilities and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures; and legislative requirements.
  • Follows and comply with all Operational Procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs (i.e. IATF, ISO 14001)
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Education in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing Maintenance activities in a metal fabrication and / or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong skills in manufacturing and process engineering with knowledge of CNC machining, metal forming and welding.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Pro-E and MasterCAM will be an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Understanding of robotic welding, mechanical and electrical machines, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical theory.
  • Knowledge of Safety Legislation.
  • Must be a team player, communicate well with others, and able to interact with all people at all levels and departments.
