What’s the job?
Reporting to the Maintenance Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer effectively co-ordinates plant projects and maintenance work plans and parts availability to meet plant availability & equipment reliability targets.
- Establish, maintain and improve the Maintenance business flow processes
- Scope the full extent of project and maintenance work needed to conduct the relevant repair / preventive / predictive design-out activities on the organization’s plant and equipment
- Develop cost and time estimate of planned maintenance work and projects
- Develop work scopes for the creation of capital expenditures (capex), managing all aspects through to project completion
- Write applicable maintenance procedures that promote defect-free maintenance work quality
- Responsible for up-keep and accuracy of equipment maintenance history and job records database
- Responsible for up-keep and accuracy of technical information on processes, plant and equipment
- Convert the organization’s asset management and maintenance strategy into workplace activities
- Able and competent in root cause failure analysis leadership and investigations
- Schedule project and maintenance work into production plan
- Ensure key performance indicators are captured and reported for equipment reliability, maintenance department performance and planning and scheduling business flow process
- Collaborate with maintenance supervision to schedule manpower and resources for the most effective production and maintenance outcomes
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure maintenance and project budget guidelines are adhered to.
- Ensure availability of required parts for project and maintenance work
- Contacting external vendors and suppliers to obtain bids and quotes
- Assist in supervising projects and extended maintenance shutdowns as required
- Responsible for project and maintenance purchasing while adhering to budget guidelines.
- Assist with supervision of maintenance employees and contractors as required.

Required Qualifications
What do you bring
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with solid academic achievements
- P Eng. or working towards a designation
- Minimum 3-6 Years prior Work experience in a maintenance function
- Project execution from start to finish
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Ability to adapt to change and respond well under pressure
- Solid interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability and desire to work in a fast paced environment
- Looking for a well-rounded individual with strong character
- Experience working within a unionized environment would be an asset
Additional Description
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works is a manufacturing plant environment with limited HVAC, concrete floors, and exposure to industrial noise, dust, chemicals and temperature changes. Normal plant operation is 24 hours, 7 days a week and work hours may vary depending on business needs. May require long hours, and weekend and holiday work. May require travel by air and rental cars.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to spend a significant amount of time on plant floor. Job includes tasks that require walking, bending, twisting, gripping, stair and ladder climbing, entering confined spaces, navigating rough terrain and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Job may require long periods of sitting, walking, standing, working on a computer or engaging in telephone conversation. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated.
