ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mine Surveyor to join our Technical Services team reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent.

Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.

The Mine Surveyor will be responsible for surveying open pit requirements and other assignments at the mine site, while ensuring compliance towards all safety and regulatory procedures/acts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities will include:

• 
  Perform site surveying and mapping, including open pit and project surveying;
• Lay out production drill patterns when required, restricted areas, dig to limits, ore boundaries and dump limits;
• Perform a process site topography utilizing UAV technology;
• Pick up all drilled production and toe limits, wall limits, subsidence and stability failures;
• Check pick-ups for design compliance;
• Grade floor evaluations in the pit and on stockpiles and dumps;
• Compile and submit monthly volume calculation reports;
• Update pit and site status maps;
• Layout blaster patterns, RC holes and update blast master drawings;
• Guide the building of new ramps and roads.

QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:

• 
  Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Surveying or equivalent combination of education/training and experience;
• Minimum five years’ experience working in Surveying, preferably in an open pit setting;
• Proficiency in 3D mine planning and design software, preferably with Maptek;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Ability to work outside 75% of the time, occasionally subject to extreme weather;
• Physically fit, able to lift 50 lbs and able to carry heavy equipment;
• Demonstrated commitment to safety in the workplace;
• Experience working in a remote mine site is an asset.
