Position

Payroll Clerk

Location

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic
Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities,
especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of
Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Payroll Administrator, the Payroll Clerk is responsible for activities relating to the

Company’s semi-monthly payroll functions and assisting with benefits administration. This includes timely

and accurate processing and reporting of payroll data for the Company’s employees. Integrity and strong

attention to detail and confidentiality are crucial for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in processing full-cycle semi-monthly, payroll for over 500 employees (salary and hourly),
  • Processes daily time sheets, inputs overtime and completes other data processing related to payroll
changes using payroll software,
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies prior to transmission,
  • Processes information for onboarding new hires, resignations, and terminations; sends ROE to
Service Canada,



  • Maintains records of employee attendance, leave and overtime to calculate pay and benefit
entitlements,
  • Processes and files remittances for WCB and EHT, Health and Safety,
  • Assists with administering the Employee Group Benefit Plan (including maintaining accurate
employee records and status changes with insurance provider),
  • Administers appropriate calculations for special payments and final pay for terminated employees,
  • Processes overtime calculation for 4x4 and 7x7 cycles and adjusting payroll for those that do not
qualify for the premium during the current cycles,
  • Communicates with employees on timesheet approvals or questions.
  • Assists with new shifts rates to be inputted and RRSP's employee portion and Copper Mountain’s
portion,
  • Assists with reconciling payroll-related accounts and GL accounts on a monthly basis,
  • Provides coverage for Payroll Administrator during any absences, and backup for administering
benefits,
  • Assists with internal and external audits,
  • Performs clerical duties, such as maintain filing systems,
  • Provides customer service to all internal and external stakeholders regarding inquiries and concerns,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Payroll Clerk position as required or as assigned by
the department head.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum grade 12, or equivalent,
  • Previous experience in computerized payroll a role an asset,
  • Pursuing or possess Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is considered an asset,
  • Experience using Ceridian Dayforce or other automated payroll software,
  • Experience in processing hourly, salary, and bonuses in payroll,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of payroll, payroll systems, and internal controls,
  • Working knowledge with Ceridian-Dayforce or other computerized-payroll systems is an asset,
  • Ability to prepare reports using Microsoft Excel,
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner,
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and procedures,
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude,
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy,
  • Strong problem-identification and problem-resolution skills,
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor,
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing,



  • Ability to work independently within prescribed guidelines,
  • Strong customer service focus.

Working Conditions

  • Position is a site based therefore requiring travel to and from mine site,
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals,
  • Lifting or moving up to 25lbs may be required,
  • Meets mandatory pre-employment testing requirements,
  • Occasional overtime.


Other Requirements

  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening requirements and drug & alcohol testing,
  • Provide proof of a valid class 5/7N driver’s license,
  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada,
  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements.
