YOUR ROLE AS THE QUALITY CONTROL LABORATORY SUPERVISOR:
Under the supervision of the Analytical Manager, the Quality Control Laboratory Supervisor assures that priorities of the Q.C. Laboratory are met. Ensures acceptable service levels to the Chemical Processing, Material Handling, Packaging and Shipping departments through effective interactions and communication with those departments. These responsibilities encompass specifically but not exclusively; disposition of raw materials, batches and packaged products; validation of analytical methods and maintenance of method books; review of laboratory documentation, and maintenance of related files; equipment IQ/OQ, maintenance and calibration; problem-solving efforts in conjunction with other departments internally and/or with client technical contacts; GMP compliance; STOP interventions to ensure a safe working environment. The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for special projects supervised by the Quality Control Manager. The incumbent is involved in the development and implementation of Work Instructions, review of specifications and analytical methods, continuous improvement to enhance laboratory efficiency, and efforts to build productive working relationships with co-workers and personnel from other departments. The Laboratory Supervisor oversees the work of the QC analysts and technicians and reviews LIFS and OOS.

Responsibilities
Maintains good communication regarding projects, test status, issues and training needs with the Analytical Manager and other departments as warranted;
  • Demonstrates leadership of the Q.C. Laboratory, ensuring that priorities remain consistent with company needs including continual adjustment of those priorities as warranted. Ensures timely testing and disposition of raw materials, bulk batches and packaged finished products in order to properly serve well production and shipping schedules;
  • Responsible for verification/approval of change control documents;
  • Responsible for investigations through different systems: Deviation, NCN, LIF, CAPA;
  • Responsible to support for technical problem-solving in regards to specification, methods, instruments and equipment as initiated by themselves, co-workers, or QC Management;
  • Work closely with analysts and technicians to address concerns about failed tests, retest, OOS and LIMS results. To understand analyst and technicians’ needs as they pertain to testing (e.g. training needs, equipment etc.);
  • Work closely with the NPI coordinators to ensure that TMTs are done in a timely matter and that all communications regarding new tests are transferred. Once the TMT is completed work closely with the analysts/technicians to ensure qualifications;
  • Assists Analysts/Technicians with decision making skills and the knowledge needed to make informed decisions and the steps to follow after decision making;
  • Responsible for the installation, set-up and IQ-OQ of new equipment or instruments, whether installed by a third party or internally. Work with the trainer to ensure implementation of work instructions and trainings are put in place for the new equipment or instruments;
  • Implementation of Lean as it pertains to testing and ensures the continuity of these tools;
  • Acts as designate for the Analytical Manager in the handling of Q.C. laboratory responsibilities and related interactions with other departments and provides support to Technicians and analysts;
  • Verify and follow-up on new methods;
  • Follow-up on the customer complaint for new products to ensure that appropriate analysis is done – this task will be shared with the analyst when possible;
  • Work with the laboratory analysts/technicians to help them after the method transfers to increase the number of qualified workers;
  • Participate in the NPI meetings as a laboratory representative;
  • Communicate with the needs related to new products and methods (Bulk hold studies, new test methods, etc.);
  • Communicate with customers for method issues; Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures, and otherwise applies GMP/GLP principles as appropriate to work activities, including proper documentation of testing and other activities;
  • Verify and approve product specifications,
  • Complies with laboratory safety practices, policies and procedures in all activities. This includes handling of chemicals and equipment, use of protective attire and safety equipment per MSDS directives, disposal of waste materials, and maintenance of a clean and orderly work area;
  • Complies with environmental protection policies and practices in the handling and disposal of hazardous materials,
  • Handles other activities or specific projects as requested by the Analytical Manager or quality control management.

Qualifications
  • B.Sc. or higher degree in a science discipline;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in cosmetic or OTC pharmaceutical industry;
  • Very familiar with GMP and GLP;
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office suite;
  • Strong French and English skills – written and spoken.
