Position Summary

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant is the primary contact for resolving fundamental accounting and routine transaction inquiries. The role is responsible for treasury management, general ledger transactions, reconciling and monitoring both individual accounts, as well as program results. The CBA provides a variety of benefits including a 33.75 hour work week, summer hours, and holiday closure in December.

Responsibilities

  • Treasury management and bank reconciliation for multiple companies and Trusts
  • Balance Sheet and Income Statement reconciliation - e.g., capital assets, investments, deferred revenue, membership and internal allocations
  • Program monitoring and reconciliation - e.g., Professional Development
  • Full cycle accounting and financial reporting
  • Regular and ad-hoc journal entries
  • Investigating general ledger or cash transactions
  • Support annual financial audit
  • Assist with budgeting process
  • Backfill for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Project Accountant
  • Backfill for Payroll
  • First point of contact for questions regarding financial procedures, transactions, etc.
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc reports in Excel or other tools, as required
  • Identify and implement improvements to processes and procedures, as required
  • Support to the Finance Manager for special projects

  • Initiative to identify, analyze and resolve problems quickly
  • Strong analytical, investigative and trouble shooting skills
  • Strong business verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications

Education

  • University degree (or equivalent) in Accounting/Business or related field
  • Actively enrolled in Professional accounting designation program

Experience

  • At least 3-5 years of related experience, including full cycle accounting
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and ability to manipulate large volumes of data quickly an asset
  • Prior experience with developing reports in Power BI an asset
  • Knowledge of Great Plains, Business Central, iMIS Database, and Microsoft Office Suite, an asset
  • Experience in a fast-paced Non-Profit or Charity environment

Impact

Errors in treasury management, bank reconciliations or financial statements can have serious negative impact on the organization. Inability to meet specific deadlines can result in failure to meet external commitments (e.g., CRA, GAC reporting). As a senior resource, lack of professionalism may have consequences on team morale and behavior.
