Structural Steel Fitter/Structural Steel Fitter Apprentice

Garneau Manufacturing Inc. an established Fabrication company in Morinville is currently looking for a full-time Structural Steel Fitter. The position is primarily a Monday to Friday day shift position with a focus on keeping our commitment to provide our customers with the quality they deserve. Employees must have their own means of transportation and hand tools.

Education, Skills and Experience

· Preference will be given to individuals who are either a registered apprentice or an Alberta-certified journey person who possess the skills and knowledge.

· Must be familiar with flux-cored and metal-cored arc welding.

· Having experience with Overhead Crane Operation and Basic Rigging is preferred, but not required.

· Must be able to read and understand written planning and following verbal instructions.

· Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.

· Must have an acute attention to detail to ensure quality standards are met.

· Must have a ‘safety first’ attitude in and out of the shop.

Duties Include:

· Reading blueprints and specifications to determine the materials necessary to lay out work.

· Laying out reference points and patterns according to component specifications.

· Preparing materials prior to assembly.

· Assembling and fitting metal sections and plates to form complete units using tack welding or bolting.

· Grinding, stamping, cutting and/or drilling material.

· Conducting housekeeping and general cleanup.

· Attending daily toolbox meetings.

· Regularly communicating with supervisor and foremen to ensure all non-conformances are reported. .

· Additional responsibilities as assigned.
