About the role
Purpose - Assist in developing, integrating, and implementing new bulk and packaged explosive products, whilst sustaining and providing ongoing guidance, support and troubleshooting to both the plants and customer sites. This includes managing and issuing documentation for product manufacture and use, providing recommendations and documents for product best practice, conducting field and plant trials and issuing reports, and being a resource as subject matter expert for the region.
The territory for this role includes British Columbia, Alberta, the Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan and requires 25-50% travel which includes driving, charter and commercial flights.
SHES
- Ensure the management of change (MOC) system is used for all product and process changes
- Ensure the Basis of Safety is known widely and conduct site audits on these standards
- Attend safety meetings and hazard studies
- Be a leader in safety and keep awareness of all hazards when travelling to or visiting Orica or customer sites
Quality
- Ensure relevant plant and field procedures are maintained and adhered to
- Verify products and processes
- Ensure plant/equipment commissioning takes place
Business Support
- Provide product & process training as subject matter expert
- Respond to internal and customer inquiries
- Provide support, troubleshooting, and solutions when issues are encountered in the manufacturing plant or field
Technology & Innovation
- Participate in new technology transfers
- Foster innovation climate driving cost down activities
- Collect competitive product/activity information
Problem Solving
- Plan, monitor and direct specific tasks
- Provide remote and in person support for field and plant issues
- Work with the regional and global teams to assist in problems across the region/globe
- Use technical skills to solve unique and complex problems
Cost Saving
- Include cost saving targets in personal objectives
- Evaluate and facilitate cost saving action
Training
- Ensure training supported in line with your expertise and changing business climates
What you will bring
- Science or Chemical Engineering Graduate
- Possess a Class 5 License
- Based in Kamloops, Calgary or south-central BC within acceptable range of an airport
- Willing and able to travel 25-50% of the time to remote locations alone or with a small team
- Desirable to have had training in: root cause analysis, coaching, SHE hazard awareness, hazard studies
- Typical Experience: 2-5 years in a technical stream, operations or sales experience is desirable.
