Title: Chemist (Life Sciences Division)

Education Required

Postgraduate degree preferred or minimum of B.Sc. degree in chemistry plus several years’ experience in an ISO 17025 or cGMP/cGLP environment.

  • Ability to investigate and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and technical issues
  • Strong computer, documentation and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience in HPLC and GC will be considered an asset
  • Customer-focused and can work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent knowledge of QA/QC, ISO and GMP/GLP systems
  • Ability to research new technologies, systems and methods

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands on bench top research and development and routine QC analyses for Customer samples.
  • Provide detailed support to testing and help develop customized customer support services using various media and equipment, including HPLC, GC, and LC/MS.
  • Implement and manage filing systems.
  • Work under established ISO 17025 and/or GLP/GMP quality systems and various pharmacopeial and international methods (USP, EP, ICH).
  • Identify bottle-necks and assist in streamlining operations with continuous improvement in mind.
  • Ensure data is properly documented, processed and released in a timely manner and in accordance with turnaround times and Customer’s expectations.
  • Maintain analytical equipment to ensure operational requirements are met.
  • Work in accordance with company policies/regulations including health and safety policies
  • Maintain inventories and GMP checks of chemicals, standards, accessories and pertinent items to ensure analyses are performed without delay.
  • Follow-up, identify and communicate incidents that require immediate attention.
  • Implement regulatory standards and systems and assist management as required.
  • Perform laboratory notebook documentation and review to support compliance standards.

Purpose

This position will be responsible for the implementation and development of analytical testing services for the Life Sciences department at Actlabs, Ancaster. Key responsibilities include providing a hands-on approach to a broad spectrum of analytical methods and process development/implementation, troubleshooting, identifying and resolving testing bottlenecks and challenges.

This position will be a key technical role and the individual will be expected to play a vital role in the development of the department. The successful candidate will report to the Manager of Life Sciences.

This person will have technical responsibilities for the execution of analytical and division methods. This will include ensuring appropriate accredited methods are used, implemented and fully understood. This position will ensure personal training records are complete and compiled, and to ensure that regulatory and accredited responsibilities are current.
