SUMMARY OF POSITION

Our Door Shop Carpenters are critical to the successful operation of the Store. Our Shop provides a full range of interior and exterior pre-hung units, as well as custom machining and cutting of door slabs. The ideal candidate is experienced with carpentry and interior millwork. A candidate with some previous supervisory experience may be provided additional opportunities to develop into a Door Shop Supervisor role. They are driven to produce high quality results that create positive impressions for customers using the services of the Door Shop. This role also includes Delivery Driver position. They will be responsible for operating a Delivery Vehicle for required pickup and delivery of building materials. This is done along with supporting Yard/Warehouse related activities – including loading & unloading. The role is physically demanding and requires a valid drivers license. From time to time, will ask to help with Sales when needed.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Wood & Steel Door frame assembly – new installation, re-fit, interior & exterior
  • Effectively utilize carpentry skills while safely using machinery & power tools
  • Read & interpret drawings & problem-solving installation instructions
  • Support Sales staff during sales process: quoting, material lists & timelines
  • Communicate professionally regarding follow-up, change-orders and installation instructions
  • Ability to identify doors - styles, hardware, mortises, grades, dimensions, and species
  • Operate Shop in a diligent, efficient & safe manner
  • Ensure Shop & Equipment is in a clean, presentable & safe-to-operate manner
  • Ensure incoming and outgoing inventory is routinely inspected for damage and accuracy
  • Utilize all processes to mitigate inventory shrinkage and product damage
  • Loading, transporting, and delivering items to customers in a safe, timely manner
  • Shipping & Receiving | Ensure all inventory leaving/entering Yard has paper-work
  • Loading & unloading of Transport Trucks, and Customer vehicles
  • Operate Delivery Vehicle in a diligent, professional & safe manner
  • Follow all Provincial driving rules & regulations

KEY EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have completed minimum Grade 12
  • Minimum 2 years of functional hands-on production environment experience
  • Previous millwork or carpentry shop experience is advantageous
  • Carpentry & Cabinetry Trade Certificate is an asset but not mandatory for the right candidate
  • Ability to read & interpret building blue-prints and building codes an asset
  • Able to use woodworking machinery for routine operation in the Shop
  • Permanent resident of Canada
  • Clean Drivers Abstract – Class 5
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated/self-directed, with an ability to work independently using sound judgment, logical reasoning skills, and intuition
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Must be able to lift up to 65lbs
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively, always mindful of the customer
  • Familiarity with Smart Phones & GPS Devices
  • Flexible, honest, acting in all situations with professionalism and integrity
  • Deal with changes, delays, or unexpected events in a professional & timely manner
  • Permanent resident of Canada

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Regularly lifting & pushing/guiding up to 66lbs: Including the following types: a. Low-level & waist level 50% b. Above-shoulder 20% c. Front carry 25% d. Shoulder-carry 5%

2. Positional Tasks a. Sitting (Driving) 65% b. Walking 60% c. Standing 10% d. Stair 1%

  • Exposure to dust, dirt and adverse weather conditions – including rain, snow, wind, sun
  • Personal protective equipment is required – including CSA Footwear.
  • Working under tight deadlines & using sound-judgement & discretion
  • Busy, high-volume work environment
  • Noise level is moderate to low

All interviewed applicants will be tested to show that they are able to accurately read measuring tools and that they can use metric & imperial forms of measurement. Safely working with common power tools, safely lifting heavy door panels, prioritizing tasks and customer interaction will round out the essential attributes the successful applicant will possess.
