Checkmate Cabs is a family-run business that has been serving Kelowna and area since 1988. We believe in integrity, treating people well and helping our customers get where they're going.

We currently need awesome drivers to join our team (seriously, we really need drivers!)

You may be thinking, "Hold up, drive a taxi?!? Aren't they going the way of the dinosaurs?"

Not at Checkmate. Demand for our service is really high, and we have a loyal customer base. Our phone is ringing off the hook every day. We have customers who are in need of rides; we have vehicles waiting to be driven; what we need right now are drivers like you!

What do you need to drive a taxi?

The major qualification is a Class 4 Driver's License (we can help you figure this out if you don't currently have one).

In addition, you'll also need to have a clean Driver's Abstract and a criminal record check.

So how does the driving bit work?

The first thing to note, if you drive for us, you'll be an independent contractor, not an employee.

Our drivers pick up shifts based on what works for them, drive a licensed vehicle provided by Checkmate (no wear and tear on your own vehicle) and get our customers to their destinations.

How much money can you expect to make?

It varies depending on the shift, but an average of $200/day plus tips is a realistic expectation. Revenue and non-cash tips are paid weekly.
