ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mine Planning Technician to join our Technical Services team reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent.

Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.

The Mine Planning Technician will be responsible for the coordination of efficient and safe mining operations involving the technical services associated with drilling and blasting activities on site.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities will include:

• 
  Designing and managing the execution of effective drill pattern designs and electronic tie-in;
• Scheduling and coordinating drill and blast activities to meet the short and medium range mine plan requirements;
• Conduct daily inspections of general pit operation to observe drill and blast areas for reporting purposes;
• Coordinate with Mine Supervisors in production fleet allocation to optimize fleet utilization;
• Compile shift, daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly production and productivity statistics.

QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:

• 
  Completion of a Mine Technician Diploma program from a recognized post-secondary institution; or significant drill and blast working experience;
• Open pit drill and blast experience is a significant asset;
• Experience with Mine Design Blasting software (Surpac, Minesight, Shot Plus and Maptek Vulcan) is essential;
• Experience working at a remote work site is an asset;
• Proven commitment to health, safety and the environment;
• Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
• Exceptional ability to work within a diverse team;
• Attention to detail.
