Respite Caregiver Job at The Cody Bunch Society
The Cody Bunch Society is in need of weekend and /or weekday overnight respite care in your home. Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. Client must have his own room. Care is for a 30 year old male with Down syndrome, ASD, ADHD Inattentive, and cogntive delay. There is personal care involved such as, teeth brushing, shaving, help with bathing if needed, application of creams when needed. This young man has a great wit about him and loves to joke and laugh. He has certain things however ( bunnies, horses) that cause him great anxiety, as do barking dogs and crying babies. He has questions about everything. He is not violent or aggressive. He likes to watch his ipad and listen to his music. Works best when he knows what to expect from the day. Does not like to go for walks much ( but will for short ones), loves to swim. He is a pretty easy going guy ,who loves to be part of a family. Experience working with persons with disabilities would be a great asset. Skills in patience, re direction, empathy, and dairy free cooking helpful. The Cody Bunch Society will pay for your criminal record check and reimburse your first aid/CPR after 3 months, if you do not already have it.
