ABOUT THE ROLE
We are growing our TransAlta team in Calgary, Alberta! We are currently seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and personable individual to join our Canadian Growth group.
This position is an integral player on the Canadian Growth team and will interact internally with corporate groups such as: Land, Government Relations, Communications, Construction, and Legal.
This permanent full-time salaried position is based out of our office in Calgary, Alberta with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the Senior Advisor, Stakeholder and Indigenous Relations, you will:
- Develop successful relationships through meaningful engagement with local communities and act as the primary point of contact for growth projects
- Negotiate agreements with a bias towards creative and innovate solutions with indigenous partners on behalf of the Canadian Growth team
- Advise the development team on strategic stakeholder engagement, facilitate consultation for projects and proactively manage risks and opportunities.
- Develop meaningful partnerships and identify, recommend, and lead opportunities for strategic alliances
- Act as subject matter expert and central coordination point for relationships and partnerships
- Maintain, build, and deepen respectful long-term relationships with key stakeholders and Indigenous communities across our markets
- Develop business opportunities, including possible partnerships, with Indigenous communities
- Design and manage community engagement strategies and actively represent TransAlta at community events
- Develop and manage website content, messaging and project materials related to stakeholder communications and new initiatives
- Identify best practices, establish policies, and drive process improvement and efficiency opportunities
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- 8+ years of experience related to Indigenous Relationships, agreements, consultation, and business development
- Strong understanding and experience with the Truth and Reconciliation’s Calls to Action, regulatory frameworks pertaining to Indigenous peoples, cultures and communities from a historical and current perspective
- Possessing cultural business awareness to work collaboratively with Indigenous communities and leaders and the ability to effectively to build lasting relationships
- Experience and comprehensive understanding of regulatory frameworks across jurisdictions for First Nations and Metis Consultation
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proven ability to present complex concepts in a simple manner to stakeholders
- Critical thinking and ability to identify creative solutions to emerging issues in a timely manner
- Reliable team member working on cross functional teams with an ability to work independently and produce results within agreed upon deadlines
- Outstanding communication skills, with an ability to process information quickly and communicate in a clear and concise manner
- Capable of handling multiple projects at various stages, prioritize assignments, adapt to changing work assignments and priorities and effectively deliver on multiple competing projects with tight timelines
- Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Nice to Haves
The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:
- Understanding of renewable energy and project development land acquisition process
- Post-Secondary degree
