The results of this competition may be used to staff similar positions within the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

Job Summary
The Senior Program Officer (SPO) is accountable for delivering funding opportunities. The SPO provides advice to the research community and their partners (government departments at all levels, private sector or not-for-profits) on programs, provides interpretations and guidance on the peer review process, approves documentation and correspondence and makes recommendations regarding proposals.
Statement of Qualifications
Education
A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or a combination of education and experience in the administration of research funding programs.
Foreign Credential Validation against Canadian Standards
Experience
Experience in the administration of research and/or award funding programs;
Experience in analyzing information and data to formulate recommendations on program and policy questions;
Experience in collaborating with multiple partners, in the delivery of programs;
Experience in overseeing the design of programs from initial concept phase to implementation and evaluation would be considered an asset.
Knowledge
Knowledge of the mandate, structure and roles of SSHRC, including the Tri-agency Institutional programs Secretariat (TIPS);
Knowledge of the academic environment, the research community and of the structure of research funding in Canada;
Knowledge of Treasury Board demands in the matter of awards payments and contributions.
